Our Elite Executive Vest is level 2 soft body armor, as dictated by National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standard .06. Within this rating system come multiple tiers of level 2 armor; level 2, 2A, and 2+. Level 2A protects against lower threat levels than level 2, while Level 2+ is not an official NIJ rating. The “+” indicates it has been successfully tested against calibers outside Standard .06 rounds.

Level II soft body armor vs. Level IIIA soft body armor

Level 2 and level IIIA are both types of soft body armor. While they both offer protection against handgun rounds, there are key differences to consider when determining what is right for you. 

Naturally somewhat lighter because of the lower level of protection, Level 2 soft armor is designed to absorb the impact of a bullet by deforming and distributing the force over a wider area. The greater flexibility provides a more comfortable fit for extended wear, and makes it convenient to conceal for individuals looking for low profile protection. 

Level IIIA soft body armor, on the other hand, can be slightly heavier than level 2 armor. This is because of the increased protection. In some cases, this could mean increased rigidity, and users may choose less mobility for increased protection against higher caliber handgun rounds. 

Beyond level IIIA, those looking to defend themselves against greater threat levels should consider level III hard body armor plates. These plates provide the protection against rifle rounds that lower level armors do not.

Level II Body Armor FAQs

I'm in between sizes, which size should I choose?

Every Executive Vest comes with two 1" size adaptors. Therefore, we would recommend going with the smaller size and utlizing these adaptors.

Does the Executive Vest have side protection?

While the Executive Vest does offer flexible spandex side panels, there is about a 1" mesh strip (without armor) on both sides for breathability.

Why is the Elite Executive Vest most expensive than the Discreet Executive Vest?

The domestically-sourced materials used to produce the HOVERLIGHT ballistics are of the highest quality, making it the thinnest, lightest, and most concealable ballistic vest on the market. With these features in mind, the Elite Executive Vest is competitively priced while still considering the cost of production.

Can I wash my vest?

The outer carrier is machine washable. Simply remove the ballistic panels and trauma pad, then we recommend washing the carrier on gentle. Lay the carrier flat to dry.

Can a civilian wear a bulletproof vest?

Body armor is legal to own in all 50 states. Civilians are legally allowed to purchase and wear bulletproof vests in 49 U.S. States. New York is the only state where it is illegal to purchase body armor (with those previously purchasing grandfathered in and allowed to continue owning their armor), while Connecticut does not allow the shipment of body armor, requiring a face-to-face transaction instead.

How much does level 2 soft body armor weigh?

Level 2 soft armor weight can vary depending on the specific model and the size of the vest, but the average soft body armor can weigh anywhere between 5 and 15 pounds. The Elite Executive Vest, on the other hand, weighs 3 pounds, meaning it is 30% lighter than the standard soft body armor vest.

How long does soft body armor last?

The lifespan of soft body armor can vary depending on factors such as usage, storage, and exposure to extreme conditions. On average, soft body armor has a lifespan of 5-7 years, but a replacement is recommended if the vest has been used in a life-saving instance or shows signs of wear and tear. Certain use cases, such as off-body carry with a backpack panel, can prolong the lifespan of the vest, protecting from wear-inducing conditions like high body temperature and excess sweat.

Is Level 2 body armor stab proof or knife resistant?

Level 2 body armor is designed to protect against low-velocity handgun rounds, but is not rated by the NIJ to stop stab or knife attacks. While they will fare better than nothing, a separate stab-proof or knife-resistant vest is recommended for maximum protection.
